Trezor Safe 5: Secure Your WMTx and EarthNode NFTs

Keeping your crypto safe is one of the most important responsibilities for any token holder.

We tested the Trezor Safe 5, which delivers hardware-level security in a device that feels modern, with a bright touchscreen and haptic feedback. It builds on Trezor’s open-source foundation and adds a secure element for extra protection.

This quick review is followed by notes for World Mobile users. You’ll see how to store WMTx across Ethereum, Base, BNB Chain, Arbitrum, Solana, and Cardano, and secure EarthNode NFTs.

Our hands-on review on Trezor Safe 5

We ordered the Trezor Safe 5 direct from the company (always recommended, avoid resellers). Delivery took three days, and the unboxing inspired confidence that the product hadn’t been tampered with.

Setup was smooth: the firmware update and initial wallet creation took just a few minutes. Writing down the 20-word recovery phrase on the included backup card was straightforward, though you’ll want to store it safely offline.

From there, the device worked like a normal wallet: send, receive, and view balances; except every action required confirmation on the Safe 5 itself. The touchscreen and haptics made approvals clear and reassuring. For someone used to crypto wallets, the flow felt familiar, but with an added layer of physical security that’s hard to match.

What’s good

:worldmobilew: Works with the main networks where World Mobile tokens exist[1]
:check-green: Secure element rated EAL 6[2] plus open-source firmware, with PIN protection.
:check-green: Optional, multiple passphrase wallets on the device[3].
:check-green: Color touchscreen with haptic feedback that makes approvals simple and clear.
:check-green: Flexible backup options starting with a 20-word recovery phrase, with the option to use a Shamir backup[4].
:check-green: Gorilla Glass 3 screen for better durability.
:check-green: Optional MicroSD Card Encryption adds an extra secret for more protection.

Trade-offs

:check-red: No wireless connection. The Safe 5 is cable-only and lacks Bluetooth.
:check-yellow: High price at $169. If you mostly hold and rarely move funds, the Safe 3 offers better value.
:check-yellow: Display and performance are adequate but not outstanding, slightly sharper visuals and faster navigation would have been welcome.
:check-yellow: Build feels a bit plasticky for the price, even though it’s sturdy in use.
:check-yellow: No internal battery, it must be plugged in to operate.
:check-yellow: Advanced options like Shamir backup and passphrase wallets boost security, but can be complex for less experienced users.

Does Trezor work for WMTx?

Trezor supports the main networks where WMTx is active:

  • Ethereum, Base, BNB Smart Chain, and Arbitrum can be managed directly in Trezor Suite. For dApps, connect through MetaMask with your Trezor.
  • Solana is supported in Trezor Suite for storing and managing SOL and SPL tokens.
  • Cardano is managed directly in Trezor Suite and supported through wallets such as Eternl that connect with Trezor, letting you hold WMTx and EarthNode NFTs.

With this coverage, you can secure WMTx across every major network using a single hardware wallet.

Set up your Safe 5 the right way

  1. Open Trezor Suite on your computer, update the firmware, create your wallet, set a PIN, and write down the 20-word backup on the paper card provided. [5]
  2. Add an optional passphrase if you want extra security. A passphrase is like an extra word added to your recovery phrase. It creates a hidden wallet that only you can access. Keep the passphrase stored separately from your seed. [6]
  3. Test a restore with a small amount before moving your main funds. This confirms your backup works as expected.

Add WMTx on each network

World Mobile Chain (Base, EVM)

WMTx on Base works in Trezor Suite. To use dApps, connect your Trezor to MetaMask and add the Base network. Import the WMTx token to see your balance, and confirm all transactions on your Safe 5.

Ethereum (EVM)

Ethereum accounts are supported in Trezor Suite. You can also use MetaMask with your Trezor for dApps or DeFi. Add WMTx as a custom token, and confirm transactions on your Safe 5.

BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20)

BNB Smart Chain is available in Trezor Suite. Add WMTx as a custom token, or connect your Trezor to MetaMask for BNB dApps. All transactions are confirmed on your Safe 5.

Arbitrum (EVM)

Arbitrum accounts can be created in Trezor Suite. For dApps, connect through MetaMask and add WMTx as a custom token. Approve every action on your Safe 5.

Solana

Trezor Suite supports Solana for SOL and SPL tokens. Add WMTx on Solana and manage it securely, with all transactions confirmed on your Safe 5.

Cardano

Trezor Suite supports ADA. To manage tokens and NFTs, connect your Trezor to a Cardano wallet such as Eternl. Here you can hold WMTx and confirm transactions on your Safe 5.

Storing your EarthNode NFTs (Cardano)

EarthNode NFTs can be held with Trezor by connecting to a Cardano wallet like Eternl. You keep the NFTs safe in your wallet and sign every action on your Safe 5.

PRO TIP: Use a passphrase wallet for extra safety

A passphrase creates a separate hidden wallet on your Trezor. Many people keep a small balance in the standard wallet and store their main WMTx in the passphrase wallet. Even if someone has your seed, they cannot access the hidden wallet without the passphrase. Make sure to back it up separately and keep it safe.

For added resilience, you can also use a multi-share backup (Shamir). This lets you split your recovery phrase into several parts and set how many are needed to restore the wallet. Storing shares in different places reduces the risk of losing access if one copy is lost or damaged.

Staking WMTx and rewards: keep your keys on Trezor

Once your WMTx is on addresses secured by your Safe 5, you can stake without giving up control of your keys:

  • Staking on Cardano
Use the World Mobile Vault through Trezor Suite or a Cardano wallet like Eternl. When you delegate or claim rewards, confirm the transaction on your Safe 5.

  • Staking on Base
Stake WMTx on Base through Trezor Suite. When you interact with the staking contract, confirm each step on your Safe 5. Keep a small balance of ETH on Base to cover gas fees.

For step-by-step instructions, see the official staking guide.

Club Verdict: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:

Trezor Safe 5 is a strong choice for World Mobile token holders who want hardware-level security with a smooth user experience. The secure element + passphrase wallet make it highly resilient. The touchscreen and haptic feedback help reduce mistakes, and with Suite, MetaMask, and Eternl you can manage WMTx across all supported networks, including EarthNode NFTs on Cardano.

If your budget is tight and you only plan to hold, the Safe 3 still does the job. But if you want to manage tokens across several chains, stake WMTx, and feel confident every time you confirm a transaction, the Safe 5 is the better option.

  1. Ethereum, Cardano, Base, BNB Chain, Arbitrum, and Solana ↩︎

  2. This means the chip has been tested to a high international standard for resistance against physical attacks, side-channel leaks, and tampering. ↩︎

  3. Each passphrase creates a separate hidden wallet, so you can keep different balances apart and safe, even if someone else has your main backup. ↩︎

  4. Shamir backup lets you split your recovery phrase into several parts. You set how many parts are needed to restore the wallet, so losing one piece does not mean losing your funds. ↩︎

  5. Keep the card in a secure place. Anyone with it could recover your default wallet. ↩︎

  6. If you lose either the seed or the passphrase, you will not be able to recover your funds. It increases security but also adds complexity. ↩︎
